Talywain National

The opening round of the 2010 BRCA National series returned to Talywain in south Wales.  A beautiful two days of weather provided the drivers with a superb weekends racing.

The track was similar to that used at the 2009 national held at the venue, a long straight (smoother than last year), level changes and three sets of ‘doubles’.

Above – Kevin Lee’s car. Solid A-final performance from Kev, as is maybe expected from the car in his hands. The ultra low CG of the Pred lends itseld perfectly to high grip Astro, generating amazing corner speed..

After winter testing of prototype parts such as shorter wishbones and widened hinge pin braces Kev has retuned to his set-up from the latter half of last summer.  It provided him with consistent high finishes in the 2009 national series and if the Talywain performance is a guide it should continue to do so.

Only small changes were made, a move to single hole drilled pistons and slightly lighter shock oil. Kev was working with hand made two position lower shock mount for added tuning.

We spoke to Kevin about the exciting news of his new venture ‘Inside Line’, distributing RC products including Predator kits and spares.

“Inside Line Racing is a new online shop run by myself and my wife Ana. We have taken on sales of the awesome predator cars and along with that will be stocking Electronics from Team Tekin, tyres and inserts.

We plan on increasing our product range and have some interesting new items in the pipeline so keep an eye on the shop, but first of all our priority is to do what we do to the best of our ability…..

…….Having been involved in RC racing for a long time we know the importance of having a shop that delivers your parts fast, exactly what we aim to do.

We have also taken over www.the-pred.co.uk which is a resource dedicated to the predator car where I’ll be on hand along with other predator enthusiasts for any advice you may need.

We will be attending all 2010 nationals and mid south regional’s so if anybody needs a part, or advice, please come and find us!”

John Spencer… flying high……. …..and keeping in closer to the ground…

Ashton Armstrong is the team’s youngest member, in his first year of national competition.  Aston stepped up to the challenge perfectly, putting in some good times in qualifying.  While not quite being on the pace of Kevin he was certainly not languishing down at the bottom of the field.

Greg Spicer, long term Predotor campaigner Nice Caravan, yeah.

An excellent weekend’s racing all round, looking forward to the next round of the series at another Astro venue – RHR at Blythe.  Hopefully another strong showing for the team.
